Moving to Long Island is exciting–you’re just a stone’s throw away from what many people regard as the most fantastic city in the world. Here, we’ll take a look at five day trips you can take when you need to take a break from moving stress.

1. Coney Island, NY

Coney Island can be the perfect place for a family getaway, whether you’re in the mood for rides or to kick back and relax on the shore. But, first, you’ll want to be sure to grab a Nathan’s Hotdog before you hit up the Coney Island Museum. Then, stroll along the boardwalk and take in the sights and sounds of all the seaside area offers.

2. Fire Island, NY

The only federal wilderness preserve in New York, Fire Island is an excellent option for a day trip to stay in tune with nature. If you’re interested in learning about how Fire Island serves as a barrier beach, sign up for a tour with a park ranger to get more information as you stroll along the shore. While you’re there, check out a canoe tour and be sure to take a look at the Fire Island Lighthouse, a mainstay of the island since 1858.

3. Kerhonkson, NY

Another option to get away from the hustle and bustle of Long Island is to visit Kerhonkson. Conveniently, it is about 3 hours from Long Island. It is home to  Minnewaska State Park Preserve. Here you can hike, enjoy waterfalls, and birdwatch. Whether you hike through the Catskills or enjoy a round of mini golf, you’ll find many opportunities to unwind, whether alone or with your family. You’ll want to check out Sugarbrook Maple Farm and pick up a bottle of real maple syrup to bring home a little taste of the Catskills.

4. Oheka Castle–135 W Gate Dr., Huntington, NY 11743

The breathtaking castle was built in 1917 and, at the time, was the second largest private residence in the United States. Over time, the castle became dilapidated but was restored to its original 1980s luster. Today, visitors love taking their time strolling through the residence and the perfectly manicured gardens. If you’re interested in more than a day trip to Oheka, be sure to book a stay–part of the building now functions as a hotel. You can also enjoy the on-site restaurant or book a guided tour.

5. Montauk, NY

With gorgeous blue waters that might make you feel like you’re in the Caribbean, Montauk is the perfect place to enjoy an oceanside day. Take a stroll through Montauk Point State Park, and check out the lighthouse, which includes exhibits signed by George Washington. Book a horseback ride at Deep Hollow Ranch if you want to take some time in the natural beauty of Montauk.
